Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a central license if I only sell food within Pondicherry?
Not necessarily. If you are a manufacturer or food service establishment operating only within Pondicherry and your turnover is between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 20 crore, a state license suffices. Central license is mandatory if you import food, have turnover above Rs. 20 crore, or operate in more than two states.
Is FSSAI Central License required for selling on Amazon / Flipkart pan-India?
Yes, if you are manufacturing and selling packaged food products pan-India through e-commerce platforms, FSSAI Central License is required as you are effectively operating across multiple states. The FSSAI license number must also appear on product packaging and in your Amazon/Flipkart seller account. We assist food entrepreneurs in transitioning from state to central license.
What is the FSSAI license number and where must it be displayed?
The FSSAI license number is a 14-digit unique identifier. It must be displayed: (1) on all food product labels and packaging in not less than 3mm font size; (2) on menus and price lists (for food service); (3) on the premises entrance; (4) on all marketing materials, websites and social media. Non-display is a violation under FSSAI labelling regulations.
